Glass on Glass - The Easy Way!
Level: Beginner/Intermediate
Glass on Glass (GOG) mosaics have an appearance similar to stained glass, where light shines through the translucent colored glass. The materials are adhered and grouted instead of using lead to bind the pieces in place. They look beautiful when displayed in windows!
You will be guided through the design process using the double indirect method to create a GOG framed mosaic for interior display. There will be many templates to choose from, so no need to create your own design. No previous mosaic experience necessary. However, the more mosaic experience you have the more detail you will be able to incorporate into your design.
You will learn about the types of glass applicable to mosaic arts and how to use mosaic tools to cut and shape the colorful, luminescent glass into tesserae (the pieces that make a mosaic). You will learn about the double indirect method, direct method, grouting techniques, adhesives, substrates, terminology, and techniques for finishing mosaic projects. You may bring glass cutting tools if you have them, but don’t need to. All necessary materials and supplies are provided in class.
You will go home with your finished 8” x 10” GOG framed mosaic, a detailed description of mosaic terminology, and a step by step guide to complete more mosaics on your own.
